2010 Workshops

Using ESRI Resource Center Content in Web Applications (May 10)

In this half-day workshop, participants will have a hands-on opportunity to explore some of the most popular ESRI Resource Center content by creating Web applications using their own GIS data. Following an introductory presentation, the workshop is organized into three parts:

  • First, an ESRI Technical Analyst will guide you through the process of authoring, optimizing and publishing a map document to ArcGIS Server.
  • Then, by using one of the Web application “Sample Viewer” templates available on the Resource Center, you will configure it to use your published map and data.
  • Lastly, additional customization is available from further customization and extension of the Sample Viewer application. Participants will also learn other tips and tricks for using Resource Center content, working with ArcGIS Server, and publishing content from ArcMap.

This is a free event for those attending the PA GIS Conference -- 25 seats are available. You MUST be registered for the PA GIS Conference to attend this workshop.  (MORE...)

DCNR Remote Sensing Workshop (May 13)

The annual DCNR Remote Sensing Workshop will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center in Johnstown, PA. The workshop will be held on the day following the annual PA GIS Conference. The workshop will focus on applications using PAMAP lidar and integration with other data sources.

The guest speaker will be Jason Stoker, Physical Scientist with the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) center. Jason will discuss working with the lidar point cloud for vegetation analyses. This workshop will highlight utilizing PAMAP lidar point cloud data for various vegetative analyses, utilizing various free, open source and commercial demo software.  Topics will include understanding the point cloud and how it relates to vegetation, how to derive useful vegetative information, and how to compare and fuse lidar with various other sensor information, such as landsat, NED, SRTM, and ortho-imagery.
